Gretta C. Matson, 89, Orofino
     
Gretta Matson passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Clearwater Health and Rehabilitation Center in Orofino, where she had lived since March 2000.
     
She was born at Lark, N.D., Dec. 12, 1915, to Douglas and Bessie Vaught Martin. In 1936, she moved to Weippe with her mother and brother, Lloyd, to join other family members.
     
She worked in the kitchen at the Coeur d'Alene Mill and Cardiff Lumber.
     
She met George Green and they were married Nov. 22, 1938. They lived at Schmidt's Mill, where he worked. They moved to the Orofino area in 1947 and operated Orofino Machine Works until his death in May 1968. Gretta worked at Watkins Dry Goods and The Centre for 12 years.
     
She married Gilbert Matson April 30, 1973. He passed away June 26, 1984.
     
She loved her house plants, reading and working crosswords. She enjoyed playing pool, cards and dice.
     
She is survived by two daughters, Joan Kroupa of Orofino and Diana Schoeffler of Clarkston; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Diana Green of Kenmore, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
     
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Merle, Leo, Harold, Ernest and Lloyd; one sister, Mae Peterson; and her husbands, George and Gilbert.
     
Visitation is from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino. The graveside service is at 11 a.m. Monday at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston.
